NVMe SSDs plug straight into an M.2 slot and reach several gigabytes per second. PCIe 4.0 is enough for most PCs and for the PS5, while PCIe 5.0 only pays off with a newer motherboard. For a PS5 or a compact build, pick a drive with a heatsink or check that your slot has its own cooling.
